Prior to joining CRC, Tri-County Electric Cooperative had its own in-house dispatchers to answer the telephone and dispatch the appropriate person or crew. We found that these after hours dispatch employees (only one was on duty at a time): (1) Could not answer more than one telephone line at a time; (2) During outage situations employees would have to return to the office to answer the telephones; (3) Were not familiar with the customers' names or locations; (4) Did not share the concern for the member that we take for granted from the other "regular" employees. Since these employees were no superhuman, the service to our members was not improved by having our own after hours dispatchers-only the costs to the members rose. The move to CRC provided: (1) More than one person to answer the telephone after hours; (2) Members received better service since CRC has the ability to adjust the number of personnel available based on weather and needs; (3) No need to have employees return to the office to answer telephone during an outage; (4) Tri County did not have to purchase additional telephone equipment for Caller ID and auto call handling during high volume periods; (5) Total cost of providing after hours service was greatly reduced which results in lower costs to the members. CRC is not familiar with the customers' names or locations but the CRCLink software provides them with the information they need to determine who our records show is the customer and where the meter is located. The same information was available to our in-house after hours dispatchers.
